I purchased the car from a friend of mine's mother in March 2005, the car had been babied from new for 28,000 miles (it's a '99), used for picking her daughter up from school and going to the mall. Welcome to the world of Porsche! I skipped so many levels of car getting here (86 VW Jetta to '01 MINI Cooper to '99 Porsche 911!), and still can't believe it's my car everytime I walk up to it. I'm kinda out of my league in this car, but I can't go backwards - what could I replace it with?

I've just hit 50,000 miles (22,000 miles in 14 months and no tickets!!!) and still drive it like it's the first time I've driven a Porsche - I love the acceleration and handling, but I hate the repairs. I must say it has been a very reliable car (especially given my driving style), except for one major incident when it needed a new engine at 38,000 miles. What sort of car needs a new engine at 38,000 miles, especially a $90,000 one!!! Very vague diagnosis from the dealer - 'probably a porous block', very little support from PCNA (Porsche Cars Nth America) - they paid for the new engine itself (~$9,000), leaving me with the installation and assorted related parts (cooling system, etc...) - $6,500. Certainly not the worst case (at one stage I was looking at a $15,000+ repair bill), but it still left a particularly bad taste in my mouth, especially considering that it is a known problem in '99 911s.
Overall I love my car. The new engine was 4 months ago and is slowly becoming a distant memory. The car is still driven daily and handles everything from a night out with 3 friends (the back seats are fine for short trips around town), trips to Costco (but without the friends!) and zipping through traffic. And every empty stretch of road at whatever speed I just love putting my foot down and feeling the acceleration!

Speed is great but, it's also about style and fun. Very Nice!
