Valve stem seal issues? For any of you folks with A2s that kick out blue smoke on startup, I just put up a guide on replacing the valve stem seals. It's a total MacGyver job - no cylinder head removal, and no compressed air required (though compressed makes it a little quicker).
http://www.boompa.com/guide/valve-stem-seal-replacement/112The procedure doesn't change very much at all for 16 valve A2s, 8 valve A3s, and all A1s. The only special tool I used while taking the pictures for this guide was the spanner for tensioning the timing belt idler. Valve spring compressor, stem seal puller, and stem seal installer were all either home made or improvised.
