Sometimes I rhyme slow sometimes I rhyme quick. But I always I drive slow. Ask dudelance, he'll never forget the safest ride home of his life.
Valve stem seal issues? For any of you folks with A2s that kick out blue smoke on startup, I just put up a guide on replacing the valve stem seals. It's a total MacGyver job - no cylinder head removal, and no compressed air required (though compressed makes it a little quicker). http://www.boompa.com/guide/valve-stem-seal-replacement/112The procedure doesn't change very much at all for 16 valve A2s, 8 valve A3s, and all A1s. The only special tool I used while taking the pictures for this guide was the spanner for tensioning the timing belt idler. Valve spring compressor, stem seal puller, and stem seal installer were all either home made or improvised.
OK, here's the scoop. I've been thinking about picking up a VW lately. I'd like it to be something that I can work on and be easy enough for someone who hasn't spent much time under the hood. I'm guessing that'll mean I'm gonna have to go with an older model used VW, possibly a GTI?I've got about 20k to spend, so I can probably find something nice. As far as new cars I've thought about 350Zs and some Mazda models, but really I'm just looking for something that's easy to work on and has a decent amount of documentation online so I can get some info when I need it.Any ideas?

Hi I'm the Co-Founder and Software Engineer here at Boompa.com. My partner in this site, Dave, and I both worked for CNET.com where we built some rather large sites.
What's with the funny Web site name?
Well Boompa.com is named after my late Grandfather Harold Lance, who was a car nut, and who we grandchilden always call Boompa. Some of his cars.
Aparently he got the nickname from the Jimmy Stewart movie "Mr Hobbs Takes a Vacation", about a grumpy guy.
