Immortalized in the Back to the Future trilogy, De Lorean Motor Company, and its DMC-12 is possibly the perfect symbol of 1980s excess. With its stainless steel body and gull-wing doors the car was an instant showstopper. Despite this, its owner, John DeLorean ran into financial trouble and was caught on camera in a drug and money trafficing sting. Though he was acquitted, the company did not survive and only 9,000 of the DMC-12s ever hit the road. edit this text
